Brent Michales defends his duet

Poison’s Bret Michaels has defended his recent duet with Miley Cyrus. The pair teamed up to perform new song ‘Nothin’ To Lose’ together, but the track caused controversy on the internet when it debuted on Thursday because of its lyrics.

Speaking to Us Weekly, Michaels admitted that he had received “75 texts” about the collaboration with the 17-year-old, which contains the lines: “We both know better than this/ Still we can’t resist/ Slowly get undressed.”

Meanwhile, the chorus includes the words: “Won’t you fall down on me/ So close I can hear you breathe.”

“I was like, ‘What the f**k is going on?’” Michaels said. “‘Everyone’s going nuts!’ It’s blown out of proportion.”

Michaels explained that he had played Cyrus the song when she was working with him on a cover of the Poison track ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’.

“[Miley's] like, ‘This is an incredible song, it’s beautiful’,” he said. “‘Maybe I could do some stuff to it, some harmonies’. I said, ‘That’d be killer!’ She was excited that she didn’t have to follow any rules.”

Michaels admitted that he hadn’t told Cyrus to look at the “lyrical content” but added: “The part where it says she slowly gets undressed, Miley says, ‘Yeah, she does’. It has no reference to her and I. It’s not even a duet.”

He concluded: “As God is my witness, there is nothing I have to be defensive about. I’m a good dad. I just thought it was a beautiful song.”
