Disney Aug. 17 released on disc the romantic Miley Cyrus drama The Last Song, which earned $88 million in theaters, while Summit bowed the Brendan Fraser comedy Furry Vengeance, which earned $17.6 million theatrically.
The top sales position for the week ended Aug. 22 should be an easy solo act for The Last Song, while the top rental for the week should be Fox’s Date Night, for the second consecutive week. Furry Vengeance, with its lower box office performance, should debut around No. 5 on the sales chart.
Meanwhile on TV DVD, Paramount came out with the fourth season of the ever popular “Dexter,” while Universal released season four of “Friday Night Lights.” If history is any indicator, “Dexter” will swing into second on the sales chart for the week.
